What is Fusion Simulation Extension? MicroCad

blog

Autodesk Fusion  is a complete 3D Design manufacturing software. For more engineering and analysis capabilities, you can extend Fusion’s functionality with extensions that enable innovation, higher quality parts, and control of the manufacturing and design processes to take your work to the next level.

Fusion 360 Simulation Extension helps determine whether a design can be manufactured or how it will perform in real life. It provides access to mechanical and thermal, data to analyze the performance and manufacturability of a design to meet requirements.

It gives creators the chance to analyze the performance of the product under development and increases the 3D simulation capabilities of the Fusion 360 program. Many different analysis types provide an in-depth understanding of the model design and let you improve its performance under real-world circumstances without the requirement for time and money-consuming prototyping.

Fusion  Simulation Extension features

Static Stress:

Inspect a range of loading conditions and analyze the resulting stress, strain, and deformation results to determine the probability of design failure.

Modal Frequencies:

Inspect the effects of natural free vibration on your part or assembly to help you fine-tune your design.

Thermal Steady-state:

Analyze heat transfer through your part or assembly to understand if your part can fail based on the maximum critical temperature of a component.

Thermal Stress:

Simulate temperature-induced stresses caused by temperature gradients in the model and varying thermal expansion characteristics of materials.

Shape Optimization:

Achieve lightweight design goals by identifying material that can be eliminated from your design, while still achieving allowable stress and displacement targets.

Nonlinear Static Stress:

Explore large deformations, motion, contact and load changes, and nonlinear behavior of materials during an event or incremental change in loads.

Event Simulation:

Predict how time-dependent forces influence design performance.

Injection Molding Simulation:

Identify how your part design influences manufacturability and part quality for plastic injection molded parts through a guided process to obtain an aesthetically acceptable part that will perform as intended.

Applications of Fusion  Simulation Extension

It gives developers the chance to evaluate the model’s performance early on, preventing potential manufacturing issues and cutting expenses for product development.

Fusion 360 Simulation Extension is a set of simulation study types to help you evaluate whether a 3D design is manufactured or to determine its performance under real conditions before manufacturing it.

Workflows and Fusion  Simulation Extension

Simulations use a fine representation of a physical system. The simulation workflow consists of the following:

  1. Produce or import a part or assembly into Fusion 360 for analysis.
  2. Switch to the Simulation workspace and elect a study type.
  3. Modify the study settings.
  4. Simplify or else modify the model specifically for simulation purposes.
  5. Define materials.
  6. Apply boundary conditions( loads, supports), define contact conditions, and mesh.
  7. Add Point Mass (Manual) loads to simulate the weight of components not included in the model.
  8. Replace bodies in the model with original Point Mass (Auto) loads to simplify your analyses.
  9. Solve the mathematical representation of your design.
  10. Review the results.
